Multifarious cogitations
Another week, another school shooting. We can't get away from the media - there have been 50 shootings this year. 200 students have died. It's terrible. It's a gun issue, it's a mental health issue. Personal responsibility. Political blame. Blah blah blah.
I'm trying to work on creating more click-bait-friendly titles. So we all know the whole Democrat ideology/Republican ideology. Traditionally, they can be thought of as a rope that pulls us in two different directions, checking and balancing along the way. Implicit in this is the idea that one works while the other doesn't.
With the successful launch of the Falcon Heavy rocket to a (presumptive) Mars orbit, I found my thoughts going to the feasibility of space travel. Specifically, why we are massively limited in our ability to reach the stars. With our current technology, Mars may be about the limit of our reach. Why? Physics.
I think that, very soon, there's going to be an interesting opportunity to have a look at a fundamental human virtue. Based on a change in circumstance to tax law, of all things, it may be possible to catch a glimpse at just how charitable we are as a population.
